MediSecure® is committed to promoting the Electronic Transmission of Prescriptions.
The MediSecure pricing model ensures that all Pharmacists can take advantage of the benefits of e-prescriptions with no additional internal costs.
Our pricing model means that MediSecure will only charge a transaction fee of 15 cents for any transaction that the pharmacy can on claim to Medicare as part of the Fifth Community Pharmacy Agreement (5CPA).
As such MediSecure e-prescriptions are effectively FREE.
NOTE : MediSecure will exchange all e-prescriptions not currently funded by the 5CPA at no cost.
Background
Under the 5CPA, a new support fee of $0.15 is paid to pharmacists for the 'electronic' dispensing
of PBS, RPBS and under-copayment prescriptions that are generated electronically by prescribers.
For a prescriber to generate a script electronically that prescriber must be using a licensed
'Prescription Exchange Service' (PES).
There are currently two PES providers servicing the Australian market. These are MediSecure and eRx.
Although it is likely that a prescriber will be using one or the other at present, it is important
that Pharmacies use both. MediSecure is committed to working with all dispense system vendors to
ensure that pharmacists can take full advantage of the benefits of e-prescribing.
MediSecure is also actively lobbying for full interoperability between all PES providers as this will
maximize the value to you as pharmacists.

Our customers are not restricted to using particular software, nor are they prevented from signing up to other ETP systems.
We believe that more pharmacies using ETP sooner gives better health outcomes across the whole community.
All MediSecure® Original e-prescriptions and resulting repeats qualify for the 5CPA 15c e-Prescription Fee per script starting 1 July 2010.
